The Archives

You've all heard the old axiom, "A picture is worth a thousand words." Now, TJ students that you are, calculate how many words a video is worth, assuming the video contains ~15 f/s, MPEG-4 compression, and 44100kbps audio. Just kidding.. anyway, there is no question that video is the best way to keep and communicate memories and events of the past. And that is exactly what we're doing here in The Archives - bringing the past of TJMC to life through multimedia.

For the technically inclined, we are doing this by feeding a camcorder into a video-in card, converting to AVI, and then (for music files) extracting the WAV. Back to the subject... our experience in digital video input and editing is still quite slim, so we would appreciate any experts out there giving us advice. Also, this is a growing section of the site, meaning that new features (file formats, feature films, songs, etc) are being added all the time.
Our goals include:
  • content: show highlights of the past 10 years, drumline cadences, directors/marcher interviews or candid shots - in video and audio.
  • production: audio remastering (for higher quality) and video production
  • file format: streaming audio and video (Real and ASF) as well as downloadable

Currently, we offer audio in the .mp3 format - to play it I recommend WinAmp. Videos are in the .avi format; support is included with most modern operating systems.

*We need your input! E-mail us if you have video requests, footage for us to archive, technical help tips, or anything else. User input has to drive this - we don't know what type of videos you want to see. Thanks!
